General Job Description:

This is a skilled, technical work performed in the field providing supervision, leadership, and expertise in inspecting of the construction of the fiber network. The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties:  Monitor and inspects the construction of the UTOPIA Fiber fiber network infrastructure to ensure quality and compliance with engineering and construction standards. Monitors and tracks corrections of construction deficiencies. Monitors the contractor’s production reports. Attends all project coordination meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School graduate or GED or higher
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in telecommunications
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience specific to fiber optic cable construction projects
  • Minimum of 1 year experience specific to fiber optic splicing and testing
Selection Factors:
  • Experience reviewing construction plans, design maps, specifications, permits and other plans related to construction projects
  • Experience with software tools such as ticketing systems, chat and text systems, email systems, Microsoft Word and Excel or Google docs
  • Experience with attending project coordination meetings include scope of work, timelines, and construction issues
  • Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects; determines fiber engineering and construction standards compliance
  • Experience with contractor production reports
  • Experience with and understanding with safety standards and regulations
  • Experience with and understanding easements and public right of way
  • Experience with change order and documentation processes to accommodate field changes
  • Experience with field measurements with use of joint poles
  • Experience with aerial make ready engineering requirements and processes for preparation of pole attachment application
  • Experience with daily job condition reports and records of material and quantities used
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to multitask in a high stressed environment
  • Learn and keep current with technological advances
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Screening
  • Based on the meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge and education
  • Criminal background checks are conducted on all UTOPIA positions
  • Non-disclosure may result in dismissal
  • Valid, lawful driver’s license is required at time of appointment.
Physical/Environment Factors:
  • Position works mainly outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperatures
  • Position requires lifting and removing type 3 concrete polymer hand hold lids
Pre-Employment Testing
  • Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug
    screening and background investigation.
