Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Range/Benefits: Competitive/Full Benefits Package
Key Responsibilities
Fiber Infrastructure & Path Validation
- Assist engineers in validating fiber path redundancy, confirming physical route diversity and failover readiness across UTOPIA Fiber’s network.
- Perform fiber terminations, splicing, and connectivity testing using approved methods and tools, ensuring low-loss, high-quality connections.
- Apply knowledge of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) construction and design principles to support new deployments, extensions, and maintenance activities.
- Operate an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) to test fiber spans, locate faults, measure loss, and verify splice and connector quality.
- Interpret OTDR traces, loss budgets, and fiber documentation to diagnose issues and validate installations against design specifications.
Equipment Installation & Racking
- Install network equipment in field huts, cabinets, and data rooms in accordance with UTOPIA Fiber standards for spacing, airflow, and cable management.
- Rack and mount network equipment including switches, routers, OLTs, ONTs, patch panels, and fiber termination panels following structured cabling best practices.
- Dress and route fiber and copper cabling neatly within enclosures, applying proper bend radius management and labeling standards.
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams to execute equipment deployments on schedule and within design specifications.
Network Device Configuration & Maintenance
- Perform initial configuration, installation, and ongoing maintenance of network devices including switches, routers, and optical line terminals (OLTs).
- Apply approved configuration templates and firmware updates to network equipment under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues at the physical and data link layers, escalating complex problems to engineering staff as appropriate.
- Support maintenance windows by executing pre-approved change tasks, performing validation testing, and documenting outcomes.
Power Systems
- Operate, inspect, and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems at network sites, verifying runtime, battery health, and alarm status.
- Support generator testing and maintenance activities, ensuring backup power systems are operational and ready for failover at critical sites.
- Monitor and document power readings, load levels, and equipment environmental conditions during site visits and audits.
- Identify and escalate power anomalies, failed UPS units, or generator issues to ensure site reliability and uptime targets are maintained.
Asset Management & Auditing
- Maintain accurate asset inventory records by tagging, scanning, and logging all network equipment installed, relocated, or decommissioned.
- Perform scheduled physical audits of network huts, cabinets, and field enclosures, verifying hardware, labeling, cabling, and equipment condition.
- Update asset management and documentation systems in real time to reflect the current state of infrastructure at each site.
- Report audit findings to the engineering team and assist in prioritizing remediation tasks based on severity and impact.
Pre-Employment Testing
- Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation.
