Junior Maintenance Engineer

Position Overview:

The Junior Maintenance Engineer supports the day-to-day health and reliability of UTOPIA Fiber’s network infrastructure. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role focuses on physical auditing, standards verification, documentation, and supported execution of planned maintenance activities. Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Standards & Verification

  • Verify labeling accuracy across network huts, cabinets, and equipment to ensure compliance with UTOPIA Fiber naming and identification standards.
  • Confirm proper power delivery to all equipment, checking power strips, UPS systems, and power readings against approved baselines.
  • Inspect equipment installations against approved hardware and configuration standards, flagging any deviations for senior engineer review.
  • Perform physical audits of huts and cabinets, documenting the condition of hardware, cabling, grounding, and environmental systems.

Documentation & Recordkeeping

  • Update and maintain accurate network documentation including rack diagrams, circuit records, and equipment inventories following any changes or audit findings.
  • Log audit results, maintenance activities, and identified issues in the designated ticketing and asset management systems.
  • Assist in creating and refining standard operating procedures and audit checklists to support ongoing operations.

Redundancy & Resilience Validation

  • Validate redundant fiber paths to confirm physical diversity and failover readiness in accordance with network design specifications.
  • Verify out-of-band (OOB) access functionality for critical devices, ensuring management connectivity is available in the event of primary path failure.
  • Document findings from redundancy checks and escalate any gaps or discrepancies to the senior engineering team.

Maintenance Execution & Support

  • Execute planned maintenance tasks under the direct guidance and supervision of senior network engineers.
  • Support maintenance windows and change execution activities, including pre-maintenance checklists, on-site coordination, and post-maintenance validation.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance windows as scheduled, with advance notice provided in alignment with team rotation.
  • Communicate status updates clearly during maintenance activities and escalate issues to the supervising engineer as needed.
