Interview With A Business Coordinator
It’s time to introduce another outstanding member of the UTOPIA Fiber team! This month, we’re spotlighting Jeff Burnham, our dedicated business coordinator, to learn more about his role and what it’s like working behind the scenes in our order fulfillment team!
What’s your name, and position, and how long have you been at UTOPIA Fiber?
My name is Jeff Burnham. I am the business coordinator and I have been at UTOPIA Fiber for four years now.
What do you do as the Business Coordinator at UTOPIA Fiber?
So my job is to follow the installs for a business from beginning to end. So whether that’s something that needs a mainline bill to their property to get there or just one that’s already in one of our cities that we have services in, you know, issuing things like the conduit work, the installation work, the fiber work, things like that.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
My work day is mostly just following up with customers, checking emails, and responding to them. Letting them know the status of where we are in the process for their builds.
What inspired you to go into this position?
I had been here for a while and wanted to work on moving up and I thought that this would be the best way to go about that. I originally started here in the FSG department and after three and a half years, almost four years there I moved into this position.
What led you to work at UTOPIA Fiber?
I was at my last job for about seven years and decided to move. I just hit a spot where I wasn’t gonna keep moving up the ladder and didn’t have anything to grow into. So I just started looking at new options and Casey Jones is actually family and he suggested working at UTOPIA Fiber so I went here.
What do you think is the biggest obstacle you and your team face?
For me and my position, it’s probably OSP projects, which is where we do a mainline build to a property to bring internet there. But the biggest obstacle for our team is probably the permits, just following those trying to get them approved and being able to do what we need to do to get the work there.
What’s your favorite thing about working at UTOPIA Fiber?
I would say probably the people. I have really good connections with everyone that I work with.
What’s been a favorite memory you’ve made at UTOPIA Fiber?
My favorite memory is just learning how to do a little bit of the networking stuff. Obviously, as a field service person and now business coordinator, I don’t do much with the networking and the provisioning. So my favorite thing has just been learning how to do some of that working with Tona. It’s always a blast with her on the phone and trying to walk me through how to provision some equipment in the field without her being able to remote in and literally being able to do it myself.
What do you wish people knew about UTOPIA Fiber?
That we’re the greatest broadband internet company. We’re a lot more than your average broadband company, we’re homegrown so we’re a lot more kind, serviceable, and understanding than other companies.
Outside of work what’s your favorite thing to do to unwind from work?
I have a wife and we’re coming up on 10 years and two kids at home. So just having fun with them; games, playing basketball, whatever it is.
That wraps up today’s interview! We hope you enjoyed learning more about Jeff and what it takes to be a business coordinator as much as we did! We’re incredibly grateful to Jeff and the order fulfillment team for all of their dedication and hard work to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently at UTOPIA Fiber.
