UTOPIA Fiber

UTOPIA University: Is Fiber Internet Actually Worth It?

Welcome back to UTOPIA University! Today we’re going to be talking about fiber internet and if it is really worth it.

Dedicated Connections.

What sets fiber apart from dsl or cable? One thing is the connection and how it gets there. Fiber travels at the speed of light, meaning you get lightning-fast speeds at a drop of a dime without having to go through many copper connections. With fiber, you also get a dedicated internet connection right from UTOPIA Fiber’s hub to your door. This means no slow downs during peak times!

Fiber is Built for the Future.

This means you don’t have to ask yourself questions like, “Is my internet going to keep up in the next five years?” That is because fiber is going to be around for a long time. It is reliable, dependable, and built to last! Fiber isn’t just about faster Netflix streaming. It’s about supporting the technologies that are coming next, Ultrealistic VR, AI applications, telehealth, and many more. Fiber is future-proof!

Upload and Download Speeds.

What are they and why are they important? Upload and download speeds affect your everyday internet use. A lot of people focus on download speed because it is in every facet of your life, but upload speeds are just as important. We live in a transactional world and when you’re uploading files to customers or you are uploading things to the internet, the faster you can get these things done and accomplished, the faster you can move on and be at peace with your day. With cable or DSL, you may be able to get fast download speeds, but the upload speeds are just painful. Fiber changes that. Fiber internet provides symmetrical speeds that give you the same upload speeds as your download. This makes a huge difference if you work from home, if you’re uploading files to the cloud, or if you dream to be a streamer. It’s not always about how fast you can pull things in, but also how fast you can get your data out.

Bandwidth.

Think about how many devices are on your Wi-Fi right now. You have phones, TVs, gaming consoles, smart home appliances, and the list is ever growing. Fiber provides more bandwidth than other standard connections, making it easier for you to run all these devices simultaneously. So, while the kids are in the living room playing video games and you’re at home working, you can do it all without breaking a sweat.

Reliability.

Another big plus to fiber is the reliability. Fiber lines aren’t as susceptible to degradation as other lines such as copper or coaxial. Fiber is more reliable than a copper cable for a couple of reasons, first being that it uses light to send the data. This means that you are getting much faster internet speeds. The second reason is that it’s not as prone to interference. The fiber line itself is weatherproof and is not prone to degradation. What this means for you is fewer outages, consistent speeds, and an infrastructure that can last decades. That translates into a connection you can actually count on. No more crossing your fingers every time it rains.
