Mountainland Association of Governments More Efficient with UTOPIA

March 5th, 2013

Mountainland Association of Governments, organized in 1972, serves the three-county region of Summit, Wasatch and Utah Counties, which have a combined population of 576,418.

The current activities of the Association include administration of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA), and administration of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Utah County through the Department of Regional Planning. Mountainland employs approximately 50, and administers such familiar government programs as Meals on Wheels and the Home Energy Assistance Target program, known as H.E.A.T.

Mountainland, based in Orem, has been on the UTOPIA network since 2011; the motivation for the switch was because they could “piggyback on the UDOT network which we needed,” says Andrew Wooley, IT director. Before making the switch, Mountainland had a “very reliable” T3 line, but needed more speed. Now, with UTOPIA, “we have much higher speeds,” he says.

That speed helps Mountainland be more efficient, and the savings don’t stop there. “We are able to save money month-over-month compared to our old T3, and with the increased speed, we are much happier,” Wooley reports.

Wooley reports they have found the network to be reliable as well. “We have never had any downtime during business hours.”
