Roberts Brings Decades of Public- and Private-Sector Financial Experience to the Interlocal Agency

(Murray, UT….June 10, 2022) UTOPIA Fiber has named former Brigham City Administrator Jason Roberts, CPA as its new Chief Financial Officer. Roberts, who joined UTOPIA Fiber in May brings decades of public- and private-sector financial experience to the interlocal agency at a time when UTOPIA is scaling quickly, and supply chains and financial markets are causing heartburn.

“We’re on our toes, there’s a lot going on at Team UTOPIA,” said Roberts. “We’re building in over a dozen cities and soon to be in four states. Inflation is causing interest rate pressures, and inventory issues mean supplies are costing more. My first big task is to manage costs effectively in the current environment and make sure we’re managing risk with strong take rates in new cities,” he explained.

Roberts says that he’s developing processes to help UTOPIA Fiber scale faster—both within Utah and in other parts of the country—but it’s the bond market that has been commanding much of Roberts’ attention recently: “The bond market is crazy at the moment and it’s been volatile. Investors have been hesitant, so the UTOPIA bonds that continue to sell are pretty big feathers in our cap,” he noted.

Prior to joining UTOPIA Fiber, Roberts served as Brigham City’s Administrator, andpreviously served as the city’s Finance Director. Roberts cut his teeth as Controller for Transportation Alliance Bank, and at EY in Salt Lake City.

“I’ve been involved with UTOPIA Fiber since I began working in Brigham City. I sat on UTOPIA’s Board prior to becoming an employee. I’m a UTOPIA Fiber customer at my home in Perry, so I truly live the brand. In a nutshell, I know UTOPIA Fiber inside and out and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be here today as the agency’s CFO,” he added. An avid outdoorsman, Roberts spends his free time enjoying all that Utah has to offer including camping, hiking, and enjoying his childrens’ sporting events.
