Layton City and UTOPIA Fiber complete additional sections of the network

Layton, Utah (September 27, 2016) — With UTOPIA Fiber’s continued growth and expansion efforts, two additional neighborhoods of Layton have opened up for service, completing these build-outs well ahead of schedule.

Layton City’s residents, city buildings and businesses have access to speeds up to 100Gbps through UTOPIA Fiber. Because UTOPIA is an open access network, consumers have numerous service providers in direct competition with one another, ensuring a higher quality product at a lower price point.

“UTOPIA continues to grow and we are thrilled that we can work side-by-side to complete and build out a fiber network in our city,” Layton City Manager Alex Jensen said. “Broadband and fiber-to-the-home is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. UTOPIA has allowed our residents to have access to the fastest internet speeds available, which isn’t readily accessible in most parts of the country.”

Around 30% of Layton can already get service through UTOPIA Fiber. With these new neighborhoods becoming available, more than 6,600 residents have access to the fastest internet speeds in the country.  Not only does UTOPIA offer residential services, but it provides business connections as well. There are around 400 businesses currently connected to the network in Layton City alone. The Layton City offices, Police Department and several parks in the area rely on the UTOPIA network to run their day-to-day tasks and keep the city running smoothly.

Layton City joined UTOPIA Fiber because they saw the need for a municipal fiber network for their residents and how this technology could benefit their community. They understood the importance of broadband and how the demand would grow exponentially in the years to come.

“We continue to work with Layton City everyday to further our expansion efforts,” UTOPIA Executive Director Roger Timmerman said. “Our goal has always been to build out the rest of our member cities and with Layton’s help, that goal is closer to being accomplished.”

The Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA) consists of a group of Utah cities that joined together to form an ultra-high-speed fiber-optic network, providing critical advanced communications infrastructure to their residents. UTOPIA’s fiber network allows uninterrupted faster services and its open access model fosters competition among private sector service providers who offer Internet, television, telephone and other services. Customers enjoy the freedom to choose their own service providers, the best prices and the best service. For more information, please visit www.utopiafiber.com
