Robert Black has been our fantastic Systems Analyst and Developer here at UTOPIA for the past 2 years. As a systems analyst, Robert helps keep all of our internal systems up and running smoothly as well as working on the back end of our network. “When I first started, UTOPIA was to me, the wild west as far as systems and processes were concerned,” he states. “The company was beginning to show growth and I felt I got in at the beginning of something exciting.”

Rob loves the work-life balance he is able to enjoy here. As the parent of a special needs child, Rob often needs to leave work abruptly or attend several appointments, causing him to work at odd hours and times. In spite of this, Rob always gets his work done and gets it done timely. 

Rob’s work immediately provides a positive impact on many different aspects of the company. Describing his role, Rob says he is always able to try new things to solve our problems. “We have to find creative ways to save money and still get the job done. This allows me to think around corners and find new ways to solve our unique problems.”

What has surprised Rob most about working at UTOPIA is the change in public opinion since he started. “Our reputation in the community has changed,” he explains. “Two years later, UTOPIA is seeing a tremendous amount of demand and unprecedented growth.” He wants people to know how much we do with our tiny staff. “We work so hard to deliver quality service and save money everywhere we can.”

Outside of work, Rob likes to brew beer, ride bicycles, run and take care of his 17-year-old special needs daughter and adopted 3-year-old son. Rob describes himself as direct, obnoxious and loud, but we like to think of him as hard working and honest. Thanks for all you do Robert!
