April has been another busy month at UTOPIA Fiber, we’re working hard to get everyone connected to fiber speeds during this unprecedented time. Here is a breakdown of our progress this April:

• We are excited to have released our first addresses in West Point City this month. WP002 Phase 1 is complete as well as the first section of WP002 Phase 2 with a total of ~734 homes in West Point ready to be wired with fiber. The rest of WP002 will be complete by the end of 2nd Quarter 2020, so stay tuned for more West Point addresses coming soon! West Point residents: fill out your information at givemeutopiafiber.com to be the to be first in line to sign up when your home becomes available.
• We made progress in Payson City this month as well, releasing PA023 with ~32 new addresses. PA016 will be complete by the end of next week. Payson City residents can sign up here to get the fastest speeds in the country from a choice of 11 internet service providers.
• Huge news in Morgan City this month as their city was completely built-out with fiber connectivity! Morgan City’s ~4,500 residents can now sign up with speeds up to 10 Gbps through UTOPIA Fiber. • COVID-19 has revealed large gaps in our broadband infrastructure. Read our CEO, Roger Timmerman’s, op-ed in The Salt Lake Tribune for a deep dive into the hope for the future of broadband here.
• Did you know UTOPIA Fiber is the #1 provider of air quality sensors in Utah? To see the data our sensors have collected, check out PurpleAir.com. Be sure to watch for the ways that increased telecommuting has impacting the air quality here in Utah!
• The EDWIN Project is a joint effort between BYU and UTOPIA Fiber that monitors high-risk wildfire areas using fiber-connected thermal-imaging cameras. With this information cities can automatically detect wildfires and better enforce fire restrictions. For more information on this project, check out the project website.
